Patient Information Leaflet

Please read this leaflet carefully before using your Semaglutide pen and keep it for future reference. Consult your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse if you have any questions.

What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a prescription medicine used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes and to support weight loss in adults with obesity or overweight conditions when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It is administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection using this prefilled multidose pen.

What GLP is it?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) receptor agonist. It mimics the action of the GLP-1 hormone to stimulate insulin release after meals, reduce glucagon levels, slow gastric emptying, and decrease appetite, aiding in blood sugar regulation and weight management.

Anabolic?

Semaglutide is not an anabolic steroid and does not directly promote muscle growth. Its primary function is to enhance metabolic health by improving glucose control and supporting weight loss, which may indirectly improve body composition when paired with exercise and proper nutrition.

Active Ingredient

  • Semaglutide: Each prefilled multidose pen contains 7 mg of semaglutide in a total volume designed for 240 clicks (approximately 0.02917 mg per click).

Benefits

  • Improves blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
  • Supports weight loss and weight maintenance in adults with obesity or overweight conditions.
  • Convenient once-weekly dosing with a prefilled pen.

Instructions for Use

Follow these steps to use your Semaglutide prefilled multidose pen safely and effectively. Always wash your hands before starting.

  1. Prepare Your Pen
  • Check the pen label to ensure it’s the correct medicine and not expired.
  • Inspect the Semaglutide medicine through the pen window. It should be clear and colorless. Do not use if it’s cloudy, discolored, or contains particles.
  • Remove the pen cap.
  1. Attach the Needle (6 Needles Supplied)
  • Tear off the paper tab from a new needle.
  • Push the needle straight onto the pen and turn it clockwise until it’s tight.
  • Pull off the outer needle cap and then the inner needle cap, keeping the needle sterile.
  1. Check the Semaglutide Flow with Each New Pen
  • Turn the dose selector to 1 click
  • Hold the pen with the needle pointing up and gently press the dose button until a drop of liquid appears at the needle tip. This ensures the pen is working. If no liquid appears, repeat up to 3 times. If it still doesn’t work, use a new pen.
  1. Select Your Clicks
  • The pen delivers up to 60 clicks per injection (approximately 1.75 mg max per dose). For higher doses, split the injection into two parts (e.g., half now, half immediately after in a different site).
  • Turn the dose selector to the number of clicks prescribed:
    • Week 1: 9 clicks (0.2625 mg)
    • Week 2: 17 clicks (0.4958 mg)
    • Week 3: 26 clicks (0.7583 mg)
    • Week 4: 34 clicks (0.9917 mg)
    • Week 5: 43 clicks (1.2542 mg)
    • Week 6: 51 clicks (1.4875 mg)
    • Week 7: 51 clicks (1.4875 mg)

Injecting Your Dose

  • Choose an injection site: abdomen (at least 2 inches from the navel), thigh, or upper arm. Rotate sites weekly.
  • Clean the site with an alcohol wipe and let it dry.
  • Insert the needle into your skin at a 90-degree angle.
  • Press and hold down the dose button until the dose counter reaches 0.
  • Slowly count to 6 while holding the button to ensure the full dose is delivered.
  • Remove the needle from your skin.
  1. After Your Injection
  • Carefully remove the needle from the pen and place it in a sharps container.
  • Put the pen cap back on the pen to protect it for future use.
  • Store the pen as directed (see Storage below).
  1. Warning
  • Do not use if: You or a family member have had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), or if you’re allergic to semaglutide or any ingredients.
